The Western Forest Genetics Association and the Southern Forest Tree Improvement Committee will hold a joint meeting June 20-22, 2007, at the Hotel Galvez in Galveston, Texas. The objective of this meeting will be to compare and contrast our histories, current strategies, and to chart prospective future developments. June 19 is being reserved for satellite meetings to be announced later.
Conference Topics and Format
Plenary Sessions will compare applied tree improvement programs and forest genetics research as they are practiced in the Southeast and the Pacific Northwest. Invited papers will also address emerging topics common to both regions such as the valuation of tree improvement and likely applications of new technology.
Concurrent Sessions will be organized topically to encourage the exchange of ideas between practitioners from the different regions. Contributed papers will be accepted on all aspects of forest genetics and tree improvement, including selection, breeding, progeny testing, vegetative propagation, seed orchard management, molecular genetics, genomics, genetic diversity, gene conservation, and valuation of tree improvement programs. Posters on the same topics are also invited.
