    ForesTREE Experience

    Connecting Local Educators to Local Forest Teaching Resources

    June 19-20, 2019


    WHO SHOULD ATTEND
    Teachers of grades K-8 interested in learning about forest ecosystems and conservation education
    topics, and sharing that knowledge with your students in the classroom.

    WHAT TO EXPECT
    Interact with foresters, biologists, educators, loggers, arborists, fire managers, and landowners
    who care for forest lands and make products we use every day.
    Hands-on learning will include resources and activities that you can bring to life in your
    classroom or school yard through citizen science, career exploration, and field study.
    14 hours SBEC CPE and 14 hours TEEAC credit. Class time is 8:30 am to 4:00 pm each day.

    Day 1: William Goodrich Jones State Forest Classroom, Conroe - 8:30 AM

    • Learn about Texas forest ecosystems, habitat management, forest hydrology, fire ecology, and implications of an endangered bird species that is native to Texas.
    • Receive training in Project Learning Tree’s interdisciplinary environmental education curriculum designed to teach students critical and creative thinking.


    Day 2: New Waverly Public Library, meet and begin tours - 8:30 AM

    • Tour a family owned tree farm, timber harvest operation and a working sawmill.

    $30 registration fee includes lunch both days, field trip transportation, and training materials.
