Texas Forest Service, as a component of Texas A&M AgriLife, a part of The Texas A&M University System, has submitted a Legislative Appropriations Request (LAR) for Fiscal Years 2010 – 2011 to the Governor’s Office of Budget and Planning and the Legislative Budget Board.

As part of the LAR, TFS has included an exceptional item. An exceptional item is a funding request made in addition to the base budget for programs and services at current levels.

The TFS exceptional item was a request to fund the Texas Wildfire Protection Plan (TWPP), a five-part approach to wildfire response.

Texas Forest Service has developed a strategy for reducing the number, size and intensity of wildfires in Texas. This same strategy also prepares TFS to control and suppress wildfires when and where they do occur. This strategy is the TWPP.

Texas Forest Service believes that the best wildfire is the one that never happens.
