    John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States, was born May 29, 1917, in Brookline, Mass.

    Tragically, he was shot by an assassin while riding in a motorcade through Dealy Plaza in Dallas, Texas, on Nov. 22, 1963. He was subsequently buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

    The tree at the Ruth Bowling Nichols Arboretum was grown from seed collected from the crabapple planted as part of John F. Kennedy’s gravesite landscape.
