    Official State Arbor Day Celebration in Plano

    WHO: Texas A&M Forest Service, Texas Forestry Association, International Society of Arboriculture Texas Chapter, City of Plano, Plano Parks and Recreation Department, the Texas Trees Foundation, and Toyota. Keynote Speaker: Jan Davis, USDA Forest Service, Region 8 Deputy Regional Forester for State and Private Forestry

    WHAT: The Texas State Arbor Day Celebration is being held in the City of Plano
    The celebration will feature a ceremony, educational activities and free tree adoptions. Events are free and open to the public.

    The theme of the celebration is Healthy Trees, Healthy Lives.

    This theme highlights the connection between community trees, forests and human health. As research is becoming available, findings reinforce what much of the forestry community already knows — that trees and forests have a positive impact on human health.
    On Arbor Day, we are emphasizing the importance of conserving and managing our urban tree canopy specifically to positively affect human health and create happier, healthier communities.

    This year marks the 30th year of the City of Plano being a Tree City, USA. Plano was selected as this year’s host city for the State’s Arbor Day celebration for their excellence in community forestry. City departments have joined forces to amplify the importance of trees in their community through the power of education, environmental health and sustainability.

    WHEN: Friday, Nov. 1, 2019
    10 a.m., program, followed by a ceremonial tree planting and an education fair

    WHERE: Bob Woodruff North Pavilion, 2601 San Gabriel Drive, Plano, Texas

    WHY: We encourage all Texas communities to celebrate trees and to learn about the health benefits they provide for us every day — like lowering blood pressure and heart rate, encouraging outdoor activities and generally healthier lifestyles, and decreasing mental fatigue by relaxing and restoring the mind.
