Travis Zamzow receives Texas A&M University
Board of Regents Fellow Service Award
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Yesterday,
Travis Zamzow, Texas A&M Forest Service Chief Financial Officer and Associate
Director, Finance, received the 2024 Texas A&M University Board of Regents
Fellow Service Award.
Zamzow began his career at Texas
A&M Forest Service as a Senior Staff Accountant in 2003, and from 2004 to
2024 he served as the agency’s Budgets and Accounting Department Head. In 2024,
Zamzow was named CFO and Associate Director, Finance. He has over 32 years of experience
in accounting and finance and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in
accounting from Texas A&M University.
“Travis’ steady leadership,
extraordinary service and unrelenting integrity have been crucial to the agency's
success over the past two decades and have been critical to the agency’s
ability to deliver programs and services to the citizens of Texas,” said Al
Davis, Texas A&M Forest Service Director. “He has performed critically
important fiscal management roles that require extensive knowledge and
extraordinary effort.”
During his time as Department Head,
he led the preparation of the agency’s annual operating budgets and financial
reports while leading a finance and budget department of 10. In this role, he
also improved the effectiveness of the department’s operations, resolved complex
accounting issues and actively trained and mentored the members of the
department.
The agency’s unique set of state
funding streams along with its emergency response activity, which can cross as
many as five funding sources, add significant complexities to the agency’s
financial structure, accounting and cash management. In his two decades at the
agency, Zamzow has managed the processing of over $820 million in emergency
response finances.
Zamzow has also led the agency's
legislative appropriation requests process for 12 years.
“Too often administrative staff get
overlooked for their value and impact; finances are critically important to
every aspect of what the agency does to carry out its mission,” said Robby
DeWitt, retired Texas A&M Forest Service Associate Director. “Travis has
gained extensive knowledge and skills in all aspects of managing the agency’s
finances, which has been especially important due to the agency’s role in
providing statewide emergency response.”
The Regents Fellow Service Award is the highest honor annually presented by the
Texas A&M University System to 12 extension, research and service members
for their exemplary professional service to society that has created large and
lasting benefits to Texas and beyond. To date, 18 Texas A&M Forest Service
personnel have received this award.
Zamzow is one of two Texas A&M
Forest Service personnel receiving the Regents Fellow Service Award this year.
