On July 4, 2025, destructive and deadly flooding hit the Central Texas Hill Country. In Kerr County, the Guadalupe River rose rapidly, resulting in a high death toll and destruction of homes and property. The sudden surge also damaged trees along the river corridor.
High resolution images taken before and after the flood were used to assess the damage to trees along the river by marking areas showing visible changes in the images. Of the 72 sites mapped, most sites (59.7%) showed severe damage, while 27.8% were moderately damaged, and 12.5% lightly damaged.
