According to the latest statistics reported by the US Census Bureau, privately-owned housing starts in October were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,311,000 which is 3.1% below the September rate of 1,353,000. Single-family housing starts in October were at a rate of 970,000 .which is 6.9% below the September figure of
1,042,000. Statewide pine sawtimber prices averaged $28.40 per ton, up 1% from last period and below 3% from a year ago. In Northeast Texas, the average pine sawtimber price was $28.01 per ton. It was $28.97 per ton in Southeast Texas. The statewide average pine pulpwood price was $6.57 per ton. This was up by 17% from last period and up 6% from the price a year ago. Average pine pulpwood price was $6.56 per ton in Northeast Texas and $6.63 per ton in Southeast Texas. Chip-N-Saw averaged $14.65 per ton statewide, up 6% from last period and up 11% from a year ago. Average Chip-N-Saw price was $14.69 per ton in Northeast Texas and $14.29 per ton in Southeast Texas.
The statewide average mixed hardwood sawtimber price was $38.35 per ton, up 13% from a year ago. The statewide average hardwood pulpwood price was $7.06 per ton, below 15% from the last period and down 19% from the price a year ago.
