According to the latest statistics reported by the US Census Bureau, privately-owned housing starts in February were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,501,000 which is 11.2% above the January rate of 1,350,000. Single-family housing starts in February were at a rate of 1,108,000 which is 11.4% above the January figure of 995,000. Statewide pine sawtimber prices averaged $29.55 per ton, above 5% from last period and below 3% from a year ago. In Northeast Texas, the average pine
sawtimber price was $29.61 per ton. It was $27.68 per ton in Southeast Texas. The statewide average pine pulpwood price was $5.94 per ton. This was below by 6% from last period and down 2% from the price a year ago. Average pine pulpwood price was $6.05 per ton in Northeast Texas and $4.68 per ton in Southeast Texas. p. Chip-N-Saw averaged $15.56 per ton statewide, above 9% from last period and above 8% from a year ago. The statewide average mixed hardwood sawtimber price was $37.82 per ton, below 1% from last period and above 4% from a year ago. The statewide average hardwood pulpwood price was $7.87 per ton, above 12% from last period and up 12% from the price a year ago.
