According to the latest statistics reported by the US Census Bureau, privately-owned housing starts in December were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of
1,499,000 which is 15.8% above the November rate of 1,294,000. Single-family housing starts in December were at a rate of 1,050,000 which is 3.3% above the November figure of 1,016,000. Statewide pine sawtimber prices averaged $28.06 per ton, below 1% from last period and below 4% from a year ago. The statewide average pine pulpwood price was $6.32 per ton. This was below by 4% from the last period and up 1% from the price a year ago. Average pine pulpwood price was $6.37 per ton in Northeast Texas and $5.63 per ton in Southeast Texas. Chip-N-Saw averaged $14.28 per ton statewide, below 3% from last period and up 1% from a year ago. The statewide average mixed hardwood sawtimber price was $38.32 per ton, almost remained the same from last period, but up 10% from a year ago. The statewide average hardwood pulpwood price was $7.03 per ton, almost remained the same from last period, but down 6% from the price a year ago.
