FLATONIA, Texas — Flatonia Fire and Rescue of Fayette County received a surplus military truck
through the Department of Defense Firefighter Property Program. It also received a $20,000 grant that
allowed it to purchase a 500-gallon slip-on unit.
The truck will be used as a brush truck and wildland firefighting vehicle with off-road capability. Its
high clearance will also allow for water rescues and general utility.
The surplus vehicle will give the department more capacity as its second brush truck. The department
will be equipped to handle multiple emergencies.
The department would like to thank all major department donors for their continued support.
Flatonia Fire and Rescue is recruiting new members. Interested parties can call (361) 865-3321 for more

Texas A&M Forest Service is committed to protecting lives and property through various fire department
assistance programs and has released hundreds of retired military trucks to Volunteer Fire Departments across the
state. The agency transports the vehicle from a military installation, performs necessary repairs, and delivers it to
the volunteer fire department at no cost to them. The Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program is funded by the Texas Legislature and provides cost-share funding to rural volunteer fire departments for the acquisition of firefighting vehicles, fire and rescue equipment, protective clothing, dry hydrants, computer systems, and firefighter training.
