PLEASANTON, Texas — Pleasanton Volunteer Fire Department accepted a $215,000 cost-share grant
to help purchase a new large brush truck. The grant is through the Rural Volunteer Fire Department
Assistance Program administered by Texas A&M Forest Service.
The brush truck comes equipped with a compressed air foam system (CAFS), remote control front
bumper water monitor and a behind the cab walk thru.
“We are pleased to add a truck to our fleet that can carry 1000 gallons of water,” said Pleasanton VFD
Fire Chief Chuck Garris. “The increased water supply will allow us to fight fire longer and coupled
with the addition of the foam, helps to enhance our capacity to extinguish fire quicker.”
According to Garris, the city is supportive of their department that has been serving their community
and surrounding area since 1930.
“We would like to thank the City Council and community for their support in meeting our cost share
portion for the apparatus purchase,” said Garris. “Receiving the grant and city backing made it possible
for our department to have a safer, more up-to-date firefighting apparatus.”
Texas A&M Forest Service is committed to protecting lives and property through the Rural Volunteer
Fire Department Assistance Program, a cos -share program funded by Texas State Legislature and
administered by Texas A&M Forest Service. This program provides funding to rural Volunteer Fire
Departments for the acquisition of firefighting vehicles, fire and rescue equipment, protective clothing,
dry-hydrants, computer systems, and firefighter training.
