Prescribed Fire Grants

As of May 1, 2025, the State Fire Assistance for Mitigation Grant, Community Protection Program Grant, and State Fire Capacity in East Texas Prescribed Fire Grant programs are indefinitely paused. As a result, no new applications will be accepted until further notice.

Please be advised that the next grant cycle, previously scheduled to open on July 1, 2025, will not occur.

Any previously approved applications that have been authorized to conduct prescribed burns will still be eligible for reimbursement upon receipt and verification of the required invoice and documentation.

Several grant opportunities are available for private landowners to help implement prescribed burning to reduce hazardous fuel loads and protect communities across the state.

Prescribed burning is a land management tool used to reduce potential fuel for wildfires and help promote ecosystem restoration. For most prescribed fire grants, recipients will be reimbursed at a standard rate per acre burned. All require the use of a certified and insured prescribed burn vendor.
