Pecan Grove Volunteer Fire Department acquires surplus military truck

RICHMOND, Texas — Pecan Grove Volunteer Fire Department received a surplus military truck through the Texas A&M Forest Service Department of Defense Firefighter Property Program. The department also received a $20,000 grant through the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program to install a slip-on unit to the truck.

The truck will be used as a multi-purpose vehicle in high-water rescues and wildland fire fighting.

“This really will be an asset for both our department and the county under mutual aid agreements. It will improve capabilities in fire extinguishing and rescuing during inclement weather,” said Billy Hoft, Pecan Grove Assistant Chief.

Pecan Grove VFD would like to thank its personnel for spending countless hours working to place this equipment into service. It would also like to thank Texas A&M Forest Service for the equipment.

The Pecan Grove VFD is recruiting new members and offers training paths to receive career certifications. For more information, call (281) 341-6677.
