Forest Resource Development and Sustainable Forestry

Forest Resource Development staff work with forest landowners to actively manage forests, trees and related natural resources thus ensuring the state’s forest lands remain productive and healthy, not only for the environment, but for generations of Texans to come.

Forest Resource Development programs address the improvement of trees through forest genetics; reforestation of the land; stewardship practices to ensure responsibly managed land for future generations; forestry practices in urban settings; forest pest and disease control; tree nursery operations; and, striving to maintain land and resource use at a sustainable level.

Sustainable forestry allows for meeting the resource needs of the present without compromising the needs of the future. Texas Forest Service provides focused, high priority innovation and expertise to its Sustainable Forestry Program through leadership in Forest Resource Analysis, Economic Development, Forest Inventory & Analysis, Global and International Forestry, Water Quality/Best Management Practices, Ecosystem Services, Wood Technology and Utilization, Geographic Information Systems, Forest Taxation, Forest Legacy, and Heritage Forests.
