Student Internship Program

A student intern uses a measuring tape to take the measurement of the diameter of a tree while a forester watches over his shoulder

We are looking for service-minded students to complete a summer or semester internship with our agency.

Our internships are professional positions that provide experiential learning directly related to a student’s academic education while accomplishing agency departmental objectives.

  • Internships are paid 10-week, 40-hour week, placements into existing full-time agency professional positions.
  • Internships pay $17/hour. Lodging and meals are the responsibility of the intern.
  • There is also an opportunity to participate in a non-paid responder academy to learn the basics of wildfire response.

If accepted in the program, interns will be attached to a permanent duty location and assigned tasks to be completed by close of the internship. Within this time period, there are also three days reserved for interns to shadow employees from other programs and departments across the state and agency.

Intern assignments may include: completing a park tree inventory, mapping, writing a fuels mitigation plan or developing a land stewardship plan.

Internships are limited to students who are at least 18 years of age, who have completed their junior year of college, to second-year post-graduates looking for a professional experience.

Gain hands-on experience and make a difference in forest conservation, wildfire management, and more through our internship opportunities.
