Avinger Volunteer Fire Department added a new water tender to their fleet thanks to a cost share grant through the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program administered by Texas A&M Forest Service.
“This new tender is built to be a multipurpose apparatus even though it can carry 1,000 gallons of water,” said Fire Chief Kyle Downs. “It was important to our department to keep it a size that could turn on a dime and get into tight places while traveling the county roads. This truck meets those expectations.”
The tender can discharge and draft water and has safety features that include a backup camera and LED lighting.
“Even though it is a tender, it will be one of the first out on all of our fires since it can carry a large amount of water, has foam capability and is equipped with rescue tools,” said Downs.
The truck is in service and has been used to respond to several fires.
The department is very glad to add this apparatus to their fleet, helping increase their capacity to serve their community.
