Central Bell County Fire Rescue receives $18,000 grant

NOLANVILLE, Texas — An $18,000 grant from Texas A&M Forest Service was recently awarded to Central Bell County Fire
Rescue for a new slip-on unit.

“Central Bell County Fire Rescue as well as their mutual aid area, will benefit from this new slip-on unit,” Texas A&M.
Forest Service Regional Fire Coordinator Mitchell LaMonte said.

The 350-gallon water tank, coupled with a 10-gallon foam unit, will be a great advantage in fighting wildfires in the rough
terrain of that area. The high-pressure unit sprays the foam to cover the fire, cutting off the oxygen supply to the
burning material.

“The benefit of combining the Compressed Air Foam System and the slip-on unit is that they will certainly aid us in
minimizing the rate the fire spreads to vegetation and improving our ability to contain the fires faster,” said Central Bell
County Fire Rescue Captain Jason Woodard.

Volunteer firefighters operate 85 percent of the fire departments in Texas. This year, TFS will pass approximately $24.3
million along to VFDs across the state. The grant funding aids in purchasing equipment and obtaining vital firefighter
training, giving them greater capabilities to protect life and property in their communities.

The new slip-on unit was put to the test during Central Bell County Fire Rescue’s recent response to mutual aid calls.

” The grant programs through the Texas A&M Forest Service are a great benefit to the volunteer fire departments in
Texas. They enable the VFDs to obtain valuable and much-needed equipment,” said Woodard.
