Colmesneil Volunteer Fire Department accepts a $99,000 grant

COLMESNEIL, Texas — Colmesneil Volunteer Fire Department added a 2019 brush truck to their fleet thanks to a cost share grant through the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program.

“This new addition will allow for a quick response to grass fires and other small fires with easy access in tight areas,” said Fire Chief Alan Moffett.

The brush truck is equipped with a 500-gallon water tank, 10-gallon foam system, perimeter scene lighting, backup alarm, and front spray monitor and bars.

“The addition of this unit to the Colmesneil VFD fleet will help to increase the department’s capacity to serve their community and surrounding area, as well as incorporate enhanced options for the safety of the department’s volunteers,” said Texas A&M Forest Service Regional Fire Coordinator Ricky Holbrook.

Texas A&M Forest Service is committed to protecting lives and property through the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program, a cost-share program funded by Texas State Legislature and administered by Texas A&M Forest Service. This program provides funding to rural Volunteer Fire Departments for the acquisition of firefighting vehicles, fire and rescue equipment, protective clothing, dry-hydrants, computer systems, and firefighter training.

“If it wasn’t for Texas A&M Forest Service and the grant programs that they offer, most volunteer fire departments would not make it,” said Moffett.
