We offer a variety of education resources to support students and educators in 6th to 12th grade. Whether learning in the classroom or exploring the outdoors, these tools foster a deeper understanding of Texas’ diverse forests, wildlife, and environmental stewardship.
Our resources align with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application. Helping students build strong connections between learning and the natural world.
In the classroom
Project Learning Tree Texas
Project Learning Tree offers engaging, hands-on activities designed to bring forest and conservation education into your classroom. The curriculum helps students explore environmental topics such as ecosystem dynamics, biodiversity, and the role of forests in climate regulation. With TEKS-aligned lessons, PLT encourages active participation and fosters a sense of responsibility for the environment.
Tree Trails curriculum and geospatial application
Introduce students to the value of trees in their communities through our Tree Trails program. This service-learning project combines community science with high-value STEM skills and allows students to identify and map trees in their local area, learning about the species, their environmental benefits, and how to care for them. The program strengthens students’ abilities in data collection, research, and analysis, and using geospatial technology while fostering a personal connection to their local forests and green spaces.
Expert guest speakers
Bring forestry professionals and conservation experts into your classroom through guest speaker programs. We offer access to forestry experts who can share real-world insights into forest management, wildlife conservation, and environmental careers. This provides students with opportunities to engage directly with industry professionals and ask questions about their future career paths.
Texas Forest Info
Integrate technology into your classroom through Texas Forest Info, a comprehensive platform that provides students with interactive tools and maps to explore Texas forests. Students can use technology to learn about forest cover, tree species distribution, and wildfire risks across the state. These tools enhance data literacy and provide a real-world application of their studies.
Beyond the classroom: outdoor learning and exploration
Nature Challenge
Nature Challenge offers explorers of all ages the opportunity to explore, connect, and make a difference in local parks, forests, and natural areas across the country. Students participate in nature-based challenges that enhance their knowledge of ecosystem health, conservation practices, sustainable design, and so much more!
Geocaching in Texas forests
Geocaching is a fun, interactive way to engage students with the environment. By searching for hidden caches, students practice navigation skills and learn about forest ecosystems. We offer a Geocaching guide specifically tailored to exploring Texas forests and learning about forest health, wildlife, and conservation efforts along the way.
Caring for forests: building stewardship
Instilling a sense of stewardship in students is critical to ensuring the future health of Texas’ forests. We provide several resources to help students understand the importance of responsible forest management, wildfire prevention, and tree care.
Wildfire prevention education
Wildfire education is critical to understanding how we can protect our communities and natural resources. Our wildfire prevention curriculum teaches students about fire ecology, fire behavior, and ways to minimize fire risk in Texas forests.
