Hubbard Volunteer Fire Department increases capacity to fight wildland-urban interface fires

HUBBARD, Texas — Hubbard Volunteer Fire Department completed a fleet upgrade with the
addition of a new brush truck, thanks to a $179,400 cost-share grant through the Rural Volunteer Fire
Department Assistance Program administered by Texas A&M Forest Service.

“We are pleased to replace an older 1990 truck with one that will be low maintenance and allow us to
respond more safely, with greater firefighting power,” said the Ubbard Volunteer Fire Department
Secretary/Treasurer Will Geltmeier. “The truck has a remote-controlled front bumper monitor and
sprayers, backup camera, PA system, and a two-way radio that will help communicate with those
around the truck.”

The new large brush truck has a 500-gallon water tank, foam capability, and can draft water from a
pool, creek, or other water source.
