Iredell Volunteer Fire Department accepts $200,000 grant

IREDELL, Texas — The Iredell Volunteer Fire Department accepted a $200,000 cost-share grant through the
Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program administered by Texas A&M Forest Service.

The grant was used to purchase a large brush truck that has an 800-gallon water tank, scene lighting, pump that
can be operated from the cab or in the walk across, foam capability and is 4-wheel drive.

“Our department needed a large truck with 4-wheel drive that could get out into difficult areas,” said Fire Chief
Bradley Fletcher. “This new truck will give us greater access to fires in the rockier terrain in our service area.”
According to Fletcher the truck will be used for wildland and structure fires, and possibly high-water rescue.

“Iredell VFD received a cost-share grant to help purchase a new 2019 Freightliner large brush truck that will be
a huge asset to the department,” said Matthew Schlaefer, Texas A&M Forest Service Regional Fire
Coordinator. “The department is excited to have this truck and has started training to become familiar with the
apparatus.”

The cost share portion of the truck purchase was attained through community support and fundraisers.
“We really appreciate the support of the great people in our community,” said Fletcher. “Anytime we need them,
they are always there to assist.”

Iredell Volunteer Fire Department has been serving their community since 1970 and has open enrollment for
anyone wishing to apply. For more information, contact the department through their Facebook page.
