LANEVILLE, Texas — Laneville Volunteer Fire Department updated its equipment with a $36,000
grant for a new slip-on unit from Texas A&M Forest Service.
The new unit comes stocked with a compressed air foam system and will help update the
department’s aging equipment, according to Fire Chief Samantha Cryer.
“We had about $10,000 worth of repairs on one of our older trucks,” Cryer said. “This new CAFS
unit is the only one we have and is the best truck we have at our station right now.”
The new unit will help this small department by extending the use of their water when fighting fires.
“There are only four of us in the department,” Cryer said. “Extending the use of our water will help
a lot since we don’t have as much manpower.”
TFS passes approximately $12.8 million along to volunteer fire departments across the state every
year, helping them purchase equipment to better protect lives and property.
“They are really trying to get all of their equipment back up and running,” Regional Fire Coordinator
Justin Lynch said. “Most of their equipment wasn’t working properly, and some of it was out of
service. This came at just the right time for them.”
