League City VFD rolls out new brush truck

Feb. 8, 2016 — LEAGUE CITY, Texas — League City Volunteer Fire Department purchased
a small brush truck after receiving a $100,000 grant from the Rural VFD Assistance Program
through Texas A&M Forest Service.

“We needed a little boost in the wildland fire fighting area,” said League City VFD Fire Chief
Gary Warren. “This new unit will help our department better address grassland fires towards the
West.”

With safety being a priority, the vehicle will be put into service after the volunteers receive
training on all of the truck’s capabilities.

“League City VFD works closely with neighboring departments, so this Type VI brush truck will
be a great addition to the wildland firefighting resources in the area,” said Texas A&M Forest
Service RFC Jeremy Wagner. “They will be a great asset when we need additional help fighting
wildfires.”

League City VFD, established in 1939, will continue to look for ways to increase their
capabilities to serve their community.

Volunteer firefighters operate 85 percent of the fire departments in Texas. This year TFS will
pass approximately $24.3 million to VFDs across the state. The grants aid in purchasing
equipment and obtaining vital firefighter training, giving them greater capabilities to protect life
and property in their communities.
