The Log Cabin Volunteer Fire Department of Henderson County received a new tender through the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program. The new truck is a replacement for a 1989 model tanker that will be sold to another department.

The tender has a 3,000-gallon water tank that will aid in structure, wildland, and other fires in the district, as well as mutual aid responses. Having a mobile water supply is essential in the area because there is only one fire hydrant in 36 square miles.

The Log Cabin Volunteer Fire Department is recruiting new members. Anyone wishing to join can check out its Facebook page or stop by the fire station every Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Cory Abbe, Fire Chief, would like to thank the Texas A&M Forest Service, the taxpayers of Texas, and the residents of Henderson County. He said, “donations are crucial for operation, as our budget is only $15,000 a year. We are grateful for all the help that we have received.”

As a member agency of the Texas A&M University System, Texas A&M Forest Service administers the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program and is committed to protecting lives, property and natural resources. The Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program is funded by the Texas Legislature and provides cost-share funding to rural volunteer fire departments for the acquisition of firefighting vehicles, fire and rescue equipment, protective clothing, dry hydrants, computer systems and firefighter training.
