PALO PINTO, Texas — Lone Camp Volunteer Fire Department added a 2019 small brush truck to
their fleet thanks to a $100,000 cost share grant through the Rural Volunteer Fire Department
Assistance Program administered by Texas A&M Forest Service.
“This new unit will expand our firefighting capabilities as it carries more manpower, water, and tools,”
said Lone Camp VFD Assistant Chief Cody Lee. “We feel it will also be a much safer platform for
responding and firefighting.”
The apparatus has a 400-gallon water tank, scene lighting and lots of storage space.
“Lone Camp Fire Department is proud to partner with the Texas A&M Forest Service to develop this
new apparatus,” said Lone Camp VFD Fire Chief Crystal Schoonover. “It replaces a 23-year-old unit
that has served our community well, and we look forward to many years of service from this new unit.”
Lone Camp VFD has offered fire service to their community and the surrounding area since 1971.
Texas A&M Forest Service is committed to protecting lives and property through the Rural Volunteer
Fire Department Assistance Program, a cost-share program funded by Texas State Legislature and
administered by Texas A&M Forest Service. This program provides funding to rural Volunteer Fire
Departments for the acquisition of firefighting vehicles, fire and rescue equipment, protective clothing,
dry-hydrants, computer systems and firefighter training.
