WHO: Media outlets covering the region are invited to attend a media day at Austin-Bergstrom Airport to get an up close look at the tanker base and aircraft. Airtanker pilots, managers and public information officers will be on site to update the media on the current situation regarding wildfires throughout Texas.
WHAT: Texas A&M Forest Service and interagency firefighters and equipment are positioned across the state to respond to requests for assistance. Currently there are 3 Type 1 Airtankers located at the Austin-Bergstrom Airport (AUS) to support firefighting efforts.

WHY: Texas A&M Forest Service is monitoring conditions across the state and pre-positioning firefighting resources as fire danger increases. As triple digit temperatures persist and vegetation continues to dry out, significant fire activity has increased across the state.

The Airtanker Base is in a secure location, so everyone attending will need to bring a valid driver’s license to enter the grounds. Everyone must arrive at 8:30 AM to go through a security check.
