MOUNTAIN HOME, Texas — The Mountain Home Volunteer Fire Department recently
received a $200,000 grant to purchase a new large brush truck through the Texas A&M Forest
Service’s Rural VFD Assistance Program.
“The truck is equipped with a larger water tank which will be beneficial when fighting wildland
fires,” said Mountain Home VFD Fire Chief Brian Alexander.
Mountain Home VFD serves a population of 1,500 and provides mutual aid to five other VFDs.
“Texas A&M Forest Service and the grant funds provided are essential to be able to purchase the new
equipment needed to keep our community safe,” said Alexander. “We appreciate all that TFS does.”
Volunteer firefighters operate 85 percent of the fire departments in Texas. This year TFS will
pass approximately $24.3 million to VFDs across the state. The grants aid them in purchasing
equipment and obtaining vital firefighter training, giving them greater capabilities to protect life
and property in their communities.
