FRESNO, Texas — Fresno Volunteer Fire Department purchased a new tanker with the help of a
$200,000 grant from Texas A&M Forest Service.
The truck will replace an old 1986 homemade tanker that was built years ago by volunteers, according to
Fresno VFD Fire Chief Chris Tormey.
“This is the first truck we’ve received through this program,” Tormey said. “The truck will allow us to have
water on scene instead of waiting for assistance from other departments.”
The new tanker will assist the fire department in answering its estimated 1600 calls a year.
“We are a very busy department,” Tormey said. “We needed a truck and this was the only way we could
get it. The funds we receive through the county have been cut in half over the years.”
TFS passes approximately $12.8 million along to volunteer fire departments across the state every year,
helping them purchase equipment to better protect lives and property.
