Out with the old pump and in with the new for Desdemona VFD

March 1, 2016 — Desdemona, Texas — Desdemona Volunteer Fire Department received a grant for $15,000 from Texas A&M Forest Service. They purchased fire suppression equipment that has greater pumping capacity and will help increase their potential to protect life and property in their community and surrounding area.

“The new pump and 500-gallon tank are replacing a 1980’s pump and 140-gallon tank,” said Desdemona VFD Fire Chief Dwight Dold. “It will be going on a truck that we recently
purchased.”

This addition will make the new truck a Type 3 wildland engine, which is an apparatus that is specifically designed to assist in fighting vegetation and wildland fires.

While serving under Texas A&M AgriLife, Texas A&M Forest Service works with fire service cooperators throughout the state to minimize the loss of life and property in response to wildfires and other all-hazard emergencies. This yea,r Texas A&M Forest Service will award approximately $24.3 million in grants to volunteer fire departments for the purchase of
equipment and training.
