Pineland Volunteer Fire Department increases fleet through grant programs

PINELAND, Texas — Pineland Volunteer Fire Department received a $20,000 grant through the Rural
Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program to install a slip-on unit on a surplus military vehicle, that
was provided through the Department of Defense Firefighter Property Program.

The truck has been painted nonmilitary colors, which was a stipulation of receiving the truck, and it has
been outfitted with a large water tank. The truck can go deeper into brush and forested areas.

The unit will be used in the suppression of wildland fires and as a resource during water rescues.
The department would like to thank the Texas A&M Forest Service for making the grant possible.
The Pineland VFD is always looking for volunteers. Anyone interested can meet at the station on
Monday nights to sign up.

As a member agency of the Texas A&M University System, Texas A&M Forest Service administers
both the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program and the Department of Defense
Firefighter Property Program. The Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program is funded by
the Texas Legislature and provides cost-share funding to rural volunteer fire departments for the
acquisition of firefighting vehicles, fire and rescue equipment, protective clothing, dry hydrants,
computer systems and firefighter training.
