Rendon Fire Department is now better prepared to serve community

Feb. 16, 2016 — EVERMAN, Texas — Rendon Fire Department recently received a slip-on unit that was
purchased with a $36,000 grant from Texas A&M Forest Service.

This new slip-on unit replaces an older unit and helps increase the department’s firefighting capabilities.
With the addition of the Compressed Air Foam System, the Rendon Fire Department can deliver fire retardant
that extinguishes fire and protects an unburned area while maximizing water use.

“The wildland engine was recently used in response to a structure fire, and the unit was able to successfully
foam the scene down,” said Texas A&M Forest Service Regional Fire Coordinator Michael Geesling. “It just
shows the utility of this equipment, increasing the overall effectiveness a department can have.”

Rendon Fire Department has been serving their area since 1954 and is always looking for avenues to add to
the potential of the department. The slip-on unit increases the department’s capacity to protect life and
property.

“We have already put this unit into service,” said Rendon Fire Department Fire Chief James Winkler. “We
are now better equipped for grass and trash fires and also for structure fires.”

While serving under Texas A&M AgriLife, Texas A&M Forest Service works with fire service throughout
the state to minimize the loss of life and property in response to wildfires and other all-hazard emergencies.
This year, Texas A&M Forest Service will issue approximately $24.3 million in grants to purchase equipment
and obtain vital firefighter training.
