In addition to protecting the state and fighting wildfires, many
Texas A&M Forest Service programs are aimed at building local capacity and helping Texans prevent
wildfires, prepare for and protect from them.
We work with local
fire departments and communities and provide grants for training and equipment.
We work with local government officials and fire departments to
prepare Community Wildfire Protection Plans and identify high-risk areas where
mitigation measures could save lives and property.
We inform and
educate property owners on ways to improve the survivability of their property
in the event of a wildfire. We also provide tools and resources for Texans to
learn their risk from wildfire and steps they can take to reduce risk and
prepare.
