Cason Volunteer Fire Department receives $110,000 grant

Cason Volunteer Fire Department of Morris County received a $110,000
grant to purchase a large truck chassis and slip-on unit to better serve its community. The grant was
made possible through the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program.

The unit will be used for quick attacks of grass fires and structure fires. It will also be used to help serve
mutual aid departments.

Before receiving the unit, Cason Volunteer Fire Department had only one older brush truck. Now, the
department will have more response capabilities to serve its community.

The unit has been used on three structure fires, as well as one grass fire. “We are very satisfied with
every aspect of this truck. Our department is expanding fast, and we are grateful that our equipment can
keep up,” said Kyle Harrison, Cason VFD Assistant Chief.

The department would like to thank the Texas A&M Forest Service and the First National Bank of
Hughes Springs – Dangerfield Branch.

Cason VFD is recruiting new members. Interested parties can find more information on the department’s
Facebook page.
