With the help of a $100,000 grant from Texas A&M Forest Service, Leon Springs Volunteer Fire
Department was able to purchase a new brush truck.
“With this grant we were able to replace an older model truck we were having problems with,” Fire Chief Bob Hardenstine
said. “Our older trucks weren’t reliable, and we needed to upgrade our brush trucks to serve our community better.”
The new truck comes equipped with a compressed air foam (CAF) system that the department previously did not have
access to.
“The CAF system will help with quick attacks and with structure fires by making our water supply go further,” Hardenstine
said. “The new truck can also be used as a rescue response truck if we need it to.”
TFS passes approximately $12.8 million along to volunteer fire departments across the state every year, helping them
purchase equipment to better protect lives and property.
“The cost-share program is well worth it and really helped us out in getting this much needed equipment,” Hardenstine
said. “It is a great program to help departments like ours.”
