Paducah Volunteer Fire Department recently received a $15,000 grant from Texas
A&M Forest Service to purchase new rescue equipment through the Rural Volunteer Fire Department
Assistance Program.
The equipment included new power and rescue tools for auto extrication and other emergencies.
“The new, lighter equipment allows one person to do the job freeing up others for things like traffic
control,” Paducah VFD, Chief Larry Evans said.
Similar equipment is used by surrounding counties, providing the added benefit of interoperability.
Paducah VFD serves Cottle County and the surrounding area.
Volunteer firefighters operate 85 percent of the fire departments in Texas. This year TFS will pass
approximately $24.3 million along to VFDs across the state. The grant funding will aid them in
purchasing equipment and obtaining vital firefighter training, giving them greater capabilities to protect
life and property in their communities.
“The grants are remarkable for small fire departments; many things couldn’t be done if it wasn’t for TFS
grants,” Evans said.
