The Steele Creek Acres Volunteer Fire Department in Bosque County received a
$16,371 grant through the Texas A&M Forest Service Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance
Program. The grant was used to purchase fire and rescue equipment, including a thermal imaging camera,
radios, a generator and a defibrillator.
The equipment purchased through the grant will help firefighters work more efficiently while expanding
the capabilities of the department.
The department can use the thermal imaging camera to detect heat given off by an object or person during
structure and wildland fires. The camera can also be used in search and rescue operations.
As a member agency of the Texas A&M University System, Texas A&M Forest Service administers the
Rural VFD Assistance Program and is committed to protecting lives, property and natural resources. The
Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program is funded by the Texas Legislature and provides
cost-share funding to rural volunteer fire departments for the acquisition of firefighting vehicles, fire and
rescue equipment, protective clothing, dry hydrants, computer systems and firefighter training.
