A grant awarded by Texas A&M Forest Service
allowed Yorktown Volunteer Fire Department to purchase an assortment of new rescue
equipment that includes two new Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, four new SCBA Scott
safety tanks, and a thermal imaging camera.
Taking advantage of this grant gave the department specialized equipment to assist in various
types of rescue situations and will aid in protecting the fire service personnel from fire related
hazards.
“The SCBA’s we purchased are additional equipment for the department and will ensure we
have an even number of SCBA’s in all trucks, which allows for better safety situations at fire
scenes,” said Yorktown Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief William Potcinske. “The safety of
our firefighters is always number one.”
While serving under Texas A&M AgriLife, Texas A&M Forest Service works with fire service
cooperators throughout the state to minimize the loss of life and property in response to wildfires
and other all-hazard emergencies. This year Texas A&M Forest Service is set to award
approximately $24.3 million in grants to volunteer fire departments for the purchase of
equipment and training.
