Responding to wildfires and emergencies statewide

Texas A&M Forest Service is the lead agency in Texas when is comes to fighting wildfires, and nationally-renowned for work in incident management.

In addition to putting out fires, many of our programs are aimed at building local capacity and helping Texans help themselves. We work with local fire departments and communities and provide training and grants for equipment.

Wildfires can cause minimal damage, eliminating vegetative competition and helping to improve the conditions of ecosystems. Though sometimes, they can cause extensive damage to an area where rehabilitation and additional efforts to prevent and mitigate any future problems are required.

Burned stand of trees with blue sky

An extremely dangerous fire weather phenomenon. An SPWO event is a force of nature, and much like a hurricane or tornado, it cannot be stopped.
