Want to learn how your community can manage a wildfire incident? The newest learning tool in wildland fire and all-hazard management is set to be showcased at Lone Star College-Montgomery in the Woodlands.

Simtable uses geographic data and a variety of colorful and interactive features to project customized landscapes onto a giant sandbox, creating realistic scenario training based on terrain, weather and existing infrastructure.

Texas A&M Forest Service personnel will interactively walk through historic Texas wildfire progressions at the neighborhood landscape level. Texas-specific wildfire and all-hazard tactical decision scenarios will be presented, customized for different counties, vegetation types and fire weather conditions.

“This is great way for those present to visualize complex wildfire scenarios,” said Stuart Coombs, wildland urban interface specialist.

Citizens, emergency managers, first responders, land managers and educators are invited to see first-hand how the Simtable can assist with wildfire planning, mitigation, prevention and training.

The workshop is in collaboration with the Texas Wildlife and Woodland Expo, LSC-Montgomery and Texas A&M Forest Service. Participants may attend one of three sessions at 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m., or 2 p.m. Each session lasts two hours and will take place Friday, April 1 at the LSC-Montgomery campus, 3200 College Park Drive, Conroe, Texas, Building B, Room 102.

Those interested in attending can register at Eventbrite.
