Lacy-Lakeview Fire Department receives new training tool

Lacy-Lakeview Fire Department received a $7,700 grant for the purchase of a forcible-entry training door. The funding was through Texas A&M Forest Service’s Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Program.

“The forcible-entry training system will allow our volunteers to experience the proper technique on how to utilize the tools we have with less injuries to the volunteer and less damage to the building,” said Lacy-Lakeview Fire Department Fire Chief Patty Faulkner. “Gaining access to home or business quickly and with as little damage as possible is important.”

A door training system is a simulator that can be used to teach procedures for greater efficiency and less labor. The quicker the forcible-entry is made, the quicker rescue and fire operations can be performed to save lives and property.

According to Faulkner the department will be holding another class with the simulator and would like to invite any fire department in the county to attend. It will be held March 11 at the LacyLakeview Fire Department and will begin at 8 a.m. No registration required.

Texas A&M Forest Service is committed to protecting lives and property through the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program, a cost-share program funded by Texas State Legislature and administered by Texas A&M Forest Service. This program provides funding to rural VFDs for the acquisition of firefighting vehicles, fire and rescue equipment, protective clothing, dry-hydrants, computer systems and firefighter training.
