Texas A&M Forest Service awarded the Seminole Volunteer Fire Department a grant in the amount of $13,500 to help them purchase new rescue equipment.
The department previously operated with little to no up-to-date rescue equipment.
“With this grant we were able to replace some of our older rescue equipment,” Fire Chief Guy Guffey said. “The rescue jacks we were able to purchase are completely new to our department; we’ve never had those to work with before.”
TFS provides eligible fire departments with programs designed to enhance their ability to protect the public and fire service personnel from fire and related hazards.
“The grant has allowed us to not only purchase this new equipment, but we are also now able to better protect both our firemen and the public,” Guffey said.
An approximated one-third of the U.S. population is protected by volunteer-run fire departments. Here in Texas, TFS passes approximately $12.8 million along to volunteer fire departments across the state every year, helping them purchase equipment to better protect lives and property.
