Emergency responders are invited to hone in their wildland firefighting skills at the 17th annual Mile High Wildfire Academy held at the Fort Davis Fire Department, February 19–22.
The academy features wildland firefighting training for paid and volunteer departments, safety and fire operations courses in the wildland urban interface. The academy is customized to meet the needs of fire departments throughout the state.
“The courses offered at this year’s Mile High Academy are nationally recognized to help firefighters better protect their communities” Texas A&M Forest Service Wildland Urban Interface Specialist Phillip Truitt said. “The instructors and host fire department make this academy one worth attending to firefighters from all backgrounds.”
The cost to attend can range from $55–$220, depending on the course and includes breakfast Friday–Sunday. Grant reimbursements are available to qualified volunteer fire departments through the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program, a grant program funded by the state and administered by Texas A&M Forest Service.
For more information or to register, visit the Texas Interagency Coordination Center or contact Robert Poenisch at 432-386-8108.
The Mile High Wildfire Academy is sponsored by the Fort Davis Volunteer Fire Department and Texas A&M Forest Service.
