Current Situation for Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 3:00 p.m.
*This information will be updated Monday - Friday unless significant wildfire activity occurs.
Yesterday, Texas A&M Forest Service responded to 2 new requests for assistance on wildfires that burned 0.5 acre across the state.
Accumulated rainfall since the first of September continues to add
moisture to both dead and live fuels in the fire environment. This recent trend has
decreased the resistance to control in wildfires but has not eliminated the
underlying dryness and drought. There is optimism that continued periodic
rainfall, cooler temperatures and shorter days will prevent the return of
wildfires that are highly resistant to control and eventually decrease or
eliminate the underlying dryness and drought.
There are currently 177 counties with burn bans in place.
- Nacogdoches 4254 Fire, Nacogdoches County - 13 acres, 95% contained
Contained Wildfires (100%):
- Anderson 4255 Fire, Anderson County - 0.25 acre
- Cherokee 4256 Fire, Cherokee County - 0.25 acre
