Timber Supply Analysis Update
We updated the Timber Supply Analysis application to include forest inventory data for states within 100 miles of the Southern Region, allowing users to accurately conduct supply analyses that extend outside of the Southern Region. The area of interest (supply point) must still originate inside the Southern Region for the analysis to be conducted.
Additionally, we added a calendar icon to Step 3: Filter State that shows the most recent data available for each state. The latest data common to all states in an analysis is used to produce the supply area estimates.
Data currently in the application was downloaded from FIA’s Datamart on 16 April 2020. Changes from the previous version include North Carolina (2019) and Oklahoma (2017). Another data update is planned for late summer 2020.
The application provides estimates of timberland area and standing timber, growth, and removals within a user-defined area in the U.S. South. Check it out at southerntimbersupply.com.
