Yes. To order by mail, fill out the VTR-999 Application for Specialty License Plates form found here and mail to your local vehicle registration office. You can also visit your local county tax office and order a plate in person.
2. Do I need to wait until by registration renewal notice to
order a Smokey Bear License Plate?
No need to wait! Order the license plate at any time. Your
vehicle registration office may adjust the due date of your vehicle registration. Please
talk to your local vehicle registration office for more information.
3. Are my vehicle registration fees included in the price of
the Smokey Bear License Plate?
No, your annual registration fees are not included.
4. Is the $30 fee charged every year in addition to the
yearly registration fee?
Yes, the reminder notice for the Smokey Bear Plate will be
sent with your yearly registration paperwork by mail.
5. How long will it take for the license plate to come in?
It will take two to three weeks to get your license plate
after you order. Online orders will be sent to your local vehicle registration office
where you can pick it up. If you ordered at your local vehicle registration office, the
plate will be mailed to your local address.
6. What type of vehicles can have a Smokey Bear License
Plate?
Cars, trucks, motorcycles, travel trailers and trailers are
eligible for a Smokey Bear License Plate
7. Can I transfer my Smokey License Plate to another vehicle
that I own or might buy in the future?
Yes, specialty license plates stay with the individual not
the vehicle. Visit your local vehicle registration office to get the plates transferred.
8. Can I get a Smokey Bear Plate with the International
Symbol of Access (ISA)?
Yes. To display a disabled symbol on your license plate,
attached a signed Form VTR-214 to your specialty plate application to show your eligibility for the
International Symbol of Access. Turn in both the specialty plate application
and the VTR-214 to your local vehicle registration office.
9. Can I personalize my Smokey Bear plate?
Yes, for an additional fee you may order a personalized
plate of six characters or less. TxDMV reviews each request to ensure there are
no duplications. Motorcycles can be personalized with five characters
10. How will purchasing a Smokey Bear License Plate help
prevent wildfires in Texas?
Of the $30 fee, $22 goes to Texas A&M Forest Service to
conduct fire prevention projects in communities at risk for wildfires.
